I'm getting a lot of refs, but I only get an average of 2.5 points per ref ( so if I replace my normal referral link that I get from P2S with the registration link, would it work better?

Since you are already getting referrals this wouldn't really help. This is to insure that they sign up. If you want them to be more active it will have to be from changes on your site that make P2S more attractive and doable.
