missamylou: it shouldn't be hard at all for you to increase your twitter following. Start tweeting regularly about gaming (if you're into that) and then just follow other people with the same interests. Since you're female they are likely to follow you back. Simple.

Add value to your twitter stream instead of simply spamming ref links.

Twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. are good ways to get referrals but always keep in mind that we don't want you to spam to get referrals.

So... telling your friends/followers is ok, but spamming is not ok.

The suggestion of Ape23 seems to be a good one :)
